Marc Emery
Well the protest in Dublin held on the 19th of September 2009 in support to Marc Emery, was not the greatest success but it did happen. There was a very small turn out in front of the Canadian Embassy, but still we were there. I have heard that in Canada there were good turn outs for the protests, but in Europe there was not that great a success,
in most countries that did try to show their support, it does show that the issue of legalisation is still being considered more of a local problem and not an over all global problem. What we did do is meet some new people at the protest and we managed to spread the word a bit more, we managed to get another member of LCI. We also managed to get the support of a media person.
We won't give up the fight, but we need more support, STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.
Marc Emery the self proclaimed 'Prince of Pot' has been arrested on Canadian soil by American DEA (Drug Enforcement Agents), not right in the first place as Marc has never broken a Canadian law. He was selling Marijuana Seeds to America via the internet, and in so doing declared a large income and paid taxes to the Canadian government, over a period of about 10 years it is estimated the taxes amounted to well over $600,000.00 not bad. Then one day while he was out promoting his idea of legalisation of Cannabis across Canada, his office and home were raided by the DEA agents and with the support of the Canadian Authorities he was arrested and charged for aiding and abiding the production of Cannabis in America. So he was facing life in Jail in America, but has since that time made a deal that means he will spend the next 5 years in jail for selling seeds. Only seeds, no drugs, no avoiding taxes, no crime was committed but he is still about to spend the next 5 years behind bars. Not right, Not just, Not within the scope of our human rights. Seeds after all are guaranteed to be legal under the UN convention, cause how can a seed from a plant be illegal, it contains no illegal substance, it can be used and is used in food production, but Marc Emery for some strange unjust reason is about to spend 5 years for selling them. I liked reading an explanation on the definition given to me about the word insane: ‘the redoing of the same action over and over again getting the same result over and over again, achieving nothing as a result of the action’ the war on drugs is clearly insane by this definition. As the police of the world are arresting people and the courts are putting these so called criminals behind bars, and the result of this action is nothing, but more and more people using more and more drugs and more and more people are suffering in jails for doing the same thing over and over again. When will we ever learn, that this just doesn’t work. Free Marc Emery, Free all people who are forced to endure jails for the simple action of deciding to enjoy a plant. It is insane to keep up this action when the result clearly doesn’t achieve any change.
